Simon Allen (b.1967)
Simon Allen was born in Bristol, England in 1967. He studied at Falmouth College of Art where he received his Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) degree in 1989. After graduation he made various painting/sailing trips including a transatlantic passage, tours of the Bay of Biscay, the Mediterranean, and the French canal system to Paris. Simon established his atelier in Newlyn in Cornwall, England in 1994. He has shown in a number of group exhibitions in England and America and has had one-man exhibitions at the Newlyn Art Gallery, the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth and Galerie Pelar. Besides his painting he has developed a unique collection of gilded carved wood sculptures (see Sculpture section of this site). Simon is married to Jess Allen who is also a painter and they now live with their two daughters in Penzance and maintain their two studios there.
