Walter Cole Brigham (1870-1941)


Walter Cole Brigham was born in 1870 on Shelter Island, New York. He graduated from John Hopkins University, studied at the Maryland Institute of Art and the Art Student's League of New York. He studied with William Merritt Chase and spent a year in Florence. Beside his paintings he was noted for his stained glass mosaic windows first in William Gillette's houseboat, F M Smith's yacht and later memorial windows in St Mary's Episcopal Church and the Union Chapel both on Shelter Island. He was first to exhibit marine mosaics at the St Louis World's Fair. He was a member of the Architectural League of New York and the Art Student's League.
