William Steeple Davis (1884-1961) (collection)
William Steeple Davis (1884-1961) was a nationally known photographer, painter in oils and watercolor and print maker. He was born in Orient, New York and spent most of his life in this water-bounded locale. He was passionately interested in sailing vessels and one of his earliest painting exhibitions was a series of naval battles in the War of 1812. His work is included in the permanent collections of Metropolitan Museum of Art; Toledo Art Museum; National Print Collection of the Library of Congress; Los Angeles County Museum, the Parrish Art Museum (Southhampton, NY) and others.
