Sir Jacob Epstein (1880-1978)
Jacob Epstein was born in New York City. He studied there and then at the Beaux Arts in Paris in 1902. In 1905 he moved permanently to London where he was active with the Vorticists before the First World War. He was a founding member of The London Group. He exhibited his monumental sculptures both in New York and London. He made bronzes of Churchill, Einstein, and Shaw. He is noted for his monumental burial sculpture for Oscar Wilde in Pere Lachaise Cemetery in Paris.
