Jacques Lipchitz (1891-1973)
Jacques Lipchitz was born in Lithuania. He moved to Paris in 1909 to study at Ecole des Beaux Arts, and subsequently at the Academie Julian, and the Academie Cilarossi. With the Nazi occupation of Paris, Lipchitz lost his home, his art collection, and much of his own work. He then moved to the United States in 1941 having already achieved a place in the forefront of modern sculpture. His work is in the Hirshorn Museum, Washington DC, Barnes Collection, MOMA, Jewish Museum, NYC, Grenoble Museum, Spain and others.
