Roger de Montebello (b.1964)
Roger de Montebello was born in Paris in 1964 and started painting when he was seventeen. He was educated at the Facultad de Bellas Artes in Seville and received his degrees in art history from Harvard University in 1988 and the Paris Institut d?Etudes Politiques in 1992. He had his first solo show in Paris in 1992 and has shown extensively in Europe and the United States. Montebello is most exclusively a plein air painter and divides his time between Venice, the South of France and Spain where he paints scenes of the bullfight. His paintings go beyond the limits of precise rendering?..they are a balance between present and the infinite, between the figurative and the abstract. He rearranges, adds, combines and separates, revealing a recreated Venice. A patch of light, his impeccable mastery of pictorial space, this is cerebral ???. the essence of good art
