Murray McNeel Urquhart RBA (1880-1972)
Urquhart was born in Kirkcudbrightshire in Scotland and had a very varied training as a painter. He studied at the Edinburgh School of Art, the Slade and the Westminister School of Art both in London, then at Frank Calderon's Animal School and finally at the Academie Julian under J-P Laurens. One of the features of Urquhart's work was his adoption of a contre jour, where the light is made to glow through the use of a modified palette of pointillisme.
